Does Team Plating Works deliver client stock?
Team Plating Works do not deliver any customers work due to the value of our clients stock and the complexity of logistics, particulary in South Africa.
Team Plating Works has invested in keeping our clients work safe and secure in our premises and will be available from 8am – 4pm (Mon – Thurs) and 8am – 3pm (Fri) to collect your plated works.
What is the electroplating process?
Electroplating is a process by which metal ions migrate via a solution from a positive electrode to a negative one. An electrical current passing through the solution causes objects at the cathode to be coated by the metal in the solution. Electroplating Makes Use of an Electrical Current. – “Interplex“
Team Plating Works cc specialize in barrel plating of smaller components, mostly nut, bolts and fasteners.
Team Plating Works do not do any jigging (hanging) of items.
Why is electroplating useful?
Electroplating is mainly useful due the fact that all metals end up corroding. One way to prevent this (or atleast mitigate this) is to coat the substrate with a layer of another metal which will help prolong the life of the component being plated.
All metals have different properties and require different treatments in order to obtain the finish required.

What is Hydrogen embrittlement?
Hydrogen embrittlement is a phenomenon where hydrogen atoms infiltrate metal structures, compromising their mechanical properties. When hydrogen atoms diffuse into the metal lattice, they can accumulate at defect sites, causing localized weakening and eventual cracking under stress. High-strength steels and certain alloys are particularly susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement, which can lead to catastrophic failure in industrial components like pipelines and aircraft structures.
Our Mechanical plating process is one way to completely avoid Hydrogen embrittlement.
What are Tri-Valent / Spectromate / Chrome 6 free passivations?
Trivalent chromate passivation involves using trivalent chromium compounds for corrosion protection, while hexavalent chromate passivation relies on hexavalent chromium compounds. Trivalent passivation is favored for its lower environmental impact compared to hexavalent passivation, which has raised concerns regarding toxicity.

What are the salt spray hours of Zinc Passivation Layers?
The salt spray hours of zinc passivation layers vary depending on factors such as the type of passivation treatment applied and the thickness of the coating. However, zinc passivation layers typically provide corrosion resistance for up to several hundred hours in salt spray testing.
This does not correlate to actual hours in different environments.
Can you just dip it quickly?
In electroplating, parts cannot be ‘dipped in quickly’ because the process requires controlled deposition of metal ions.
Rapid immersion will lead to uneven plating, poor adhesion, and inconsistent coating thickness.
Proper immersion time allows for uniform deposition and ensures the quality and durability of the plated surface.
